“The Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ejigbo has handed down sentences to two individuals, Abubakar Alido and Ishola Olatunji, for vandalizing Ikeja Electric transformers.
Alido was sentenced to one year in prison for destroying a 500KVA transformer in Egbeda, while Olatunji received a six-month sentence for attempting to vandalize another transformer in the same area.
The convictions follow investigations by the police, who arraigned Alido on June 14, 2024, on charges of wilful damage to transformer cables, contrary to the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
After pleading guilty, Alido was sentenced on July 2, 2024. The Business Manager of Akowonjo Business Unit, Abayomi Bolorunde, welcomed the judgments, stating that they will serve as a strong deterrent to potential vandals and help protect Ikeja Electric’s infrastructure.”
