Social Media Activist VeryDarkMan Stages Protest at Minister Wike’s Residence Over Teachers’ Strike

Popular social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has drawn public attention after staging a protest in front of the residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in Abuja. The protest was in response to the ongoing strike by primary school teachers and the recent announcement made by the Minister regarding the area councils’ statutory allocations.

Wike had declared plans to suspend 10% of the statutory funds allocated to FCT area councils. This action was taken due to their failure to implement the new national minimum wage structure for primary school teachers. The lack of compliance has led to a prolonged strike, keeping thousands of schoolchildren out of class.

In a dramatic move on Monday, VDM gathered a group of young students dressed in school uniforms and held an impromptu classroom session directly in front of the Minister’s gate. The activist, who has gained a large following for his outspoken stance on national issues, taught the children the English alphabet during the protest.

During the session, he used satirical references while teaching. “S for Suegbe, T for Tinubu, W for Wike,” he chanted, with the children repeating after him. This unconventional approach was meant to highlight the impact of the ongoing strike on education in the FCT and pressure the government into resolving the matter quickly.

VeryDarkMan declared that if the government continues to neglect the demands of the teachers, the entrance of Wike’s residence would become a symbolic classroom for affected students. His protest has since sparked discussions online and raised fresh concerns about the government’s handling of basic education in the capital.
