A tragic incident shook the Mushin area of Lagos on Wednesday night as a 12-year-old boy, Wasiu, was killed by a stray bullet during a violent clash between rival cult groups.
The chaos erupted around 8:00 pm in the Olosha axis, leaving residents in fear as gunshots rang out across the neighborhood.
Wasiu had gone out to buy food from a local vendor known as Iya Ibeji when the gunfire broke out. According to eyewitnesses, the boy attempted to flee the scene but was fatally struck in the crossfire.
Efforts to get Wasiu medical help were unsuccessful. Locals who found him unconscious after the shooting tried to transport him to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), but the hospital’s main gate was reportedly locked.
Residents claimed alternate routes were blocked by armed cultists, making rescue efforts nearly impossible. The area has reportedly witnessed a spike in cult-related violence recently, causing panic and fear among locals.
Reacting to the heartbreaking loss, Vice Chairman of Mushin LGA, Tubosun Aruwe, condemned the attack and extended condolences to the victim’s family. He urged security agencies to launch a full investigation and ensure those behind the violence face justice.
As reported by Channels TV, similar cult activities have surged across parts of Lagos in recent weeks, raising concern about the safety of children and innocent residents.
The Lagos Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
