Vice President Kashim Shettima has landed in the United Kingdom to begin the process of repatriating the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigeria for burial rites.

This was confirmed by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, who disclosed that Shettima arrived at the London hospital where Buhari passed away. He was received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuff Tuggar.

According to insiders, the Vice President departed Nigeria around midnight on Sunday, July 13, and arrived in the UK early Monday morning.

Present at his arrival were Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno State, and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. Their presence highlighted the significance of this national responsibility.

Muhammadu Buhari reportedly died on Sunday following a long illness, having been hospitalised in London for weeks. He served as Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023 and was known for his frequent medical visits abroad during his tenure.

His remains are expected to return to Nigeria today for final burial rites in accordance with Islamic traditions.
