Shank Comics Describes Nigeria as “Toxic” in Viral Post, Sparks Online Reactions

US-based Nigerian content creator and streamer Adesokan Emmanuel, popularly known as Shank Comics, has caused a stir online after describing Nigeria as a highly “toxic” and “sickening” environment.
The comedian, who relocated abroad a few months ago, made the comment via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, where he expressed his frustration with the state of the country.
In his post, Shank Comics tweeted: “Nigeria is too too Toxic man. Sickening.” The statement quickly went viral and triggered mixed reactions among users. While some supported his honest take, others criticized him for speaking negatively about Nigeria despite relocating less than six months ago.
One user commented, “You never even reach 6 months for that side u don dey enter us,” suggesting he was already becoming distant from Nigerian realities.
Responding to the backlash, Shank clarified that his comments were sincere and not meant to throw shade. “No jor. I’m serious,” he replied.
The incident has once again sparked debate over how Nigerians in the diaspora perceive their home country and whether such criticisms help or hurt national conversations.
