A confirmation from his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, and spokesperson, Garba Shehu, announced the passing of Mohammadu Buhari, GCFR, earlier today in a clinic in London.
“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.” — Garba Shehu
Recall that between 2015 and 2023, Buhari made at least 13 known medical trips to the United Kingdom, primarily to London.
He sought treatment in London in February 2016 (six days), June 6–19 2016, throughout much of 2017–18, multiple times in 2019, during the 2021 pandemic, and most recently in May 2025 around the ECOWAS 50th anniversary summit.

His extended stays fueled widespread discussion—ranging from speculation about his health, ICU admissions, and rumours during his presidency.
He was officially confirmed dead on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
